The Sunnah is to keep water next to you when eating. Why? Because the Sahabah used to choke on the stones that came in the barley bread, so they have to drink water quickly.

That is why the Prophet (s) told one of his wives, “Ya Ayesha, in the Last Days, People are not going to eat from our bread.” She (r) said, “How are they going to eat?” He said, “they are eating bread that is very pure, ground to the end. You cannot find anything in it that is not fine and yet they are not thankful.”

Grandshaykh may Allah bless his soul, said in the time of the Prophet no Sahaba used to have tooth decay, cavities in their teeth, because it was not in that time. There was no dentistry at that time. For every time Allah gives them ways.

Sayidina Aisha (r) raised her hands and said, “O Allah make cavities come in their teeth for their ungratefulness for their fine flour.” The Prophet said, “stop!” and if she didn’t stop Grandshaykh said that all the people of today would have lost their teeth. From that time cavities began.”
